Buhari warns against looming economic downturn

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday warned that with the fall in oil prices, Nigeria risked economic decline, if it failed to manage its resources prudently.

Buhari gave the warning during a meeting with members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari urged accountants to take their audit reports seriously.

A 28-year-old university graduate of Economics, Nonso Akubueze, has been arrested along with four other suspects by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged drug trafficking.

It was learnt that Akubueze and the other suspects – Simon Omoluonye, Obidike Onodyer, Friday Onyeabor and Emma Ifoh – were apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with 11.5 kilogrammes of cocaine substances valued at N57m.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects had smuggled the drug into the country from Brazil.

In a display of absurd mannerism, an unidentified commercial vehicle driver on Tuesday removed his cloths and started behaving strangely when officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps stopped his car and demanded for his vehicle particulars.

The incident happened along the busy Marian Road in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Shell oil workers fired after angry wife sent sex video to husband's contacts

 

 

Two Shell oil workers who filmed themselves having sex in a hotel have been fired after the video was found by the man’s angry wife and posted online.

 

Despite being married to other people, Lee Hanlon, 32, and Amy Maxwell, 33, recorded the video during a night spent together at the Premier Inn.

 

However, when it was discovered by Mr Hanlon’s wife Charon, she posted it on messaging service Whatsapp and it soon spread like wildfire.

Nigerian woman among dead in Saudi fire

Saudi authorities said Monday that a Nigerian woman, three Canadians and one Pakistani were among 10 people killed in a fire at a residential complex rented by oil giant Saudi Aramco at the weekend

The civil defence revised down from 11 the death toll for Sunday’s blaze at the complex in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, in a statement carried by state news agency SPA.

It said 259 people were wounded, but that 179 of those have been discharged. The five others who died in the blaze were yet to be identified, according to the civil defence.

It said the fire was ignited by an electric short circuit in the underground parking where 130 cars were parked. It said that 35 vehicles were completely destroyed by the fire.

Saudi Aramco says it employs more than 61,000 workers worldwide from 77 countries. Foreigners represent around a third of the kingdom’s population of 30.8 million.

The victims of the Nigerian Air Force plane which crashed on Saturday into a residential quarter at Ribadu Cantonment in Kaduna,have been named.

They are: Squadron Leader Adekunle Suara (pilot), wife of Wing Commander N. Hassan, wife of Wing Commander I. B. Musa, Warrant Officer Etim and Air Craft Woman Naomi Adekunle.

The ill-fated aircraft was Abuja-bound.
 

Squadron Leader Suara is survived by a young wife, who got married to him last year.

38 girls die in crash on way to Swaziland beauty pageant

  A road accident in Swaziland killed 38 girls and seriously injured 20 others who had been on their way to a traditional ceremony where King Mswati III can choose a new wife, pro-democracy activists reported.

The accident happened Friday night when their open truck smashed into a car on the road between the tiny kingdom's two main cities, Mbabane and Manzini, en route to the traditional Reed Dance, activists said. 

"A total of 38 young girls have been pronounced dead, with more than 20 others seriously injured," said Lucky Lukhele, a spokesman for the Swaziland Solidarity Network which campaigns for democracy in the landlocked kingdom within South Africa. 

"The girls were in an open truck which hit a sedan car stopped on the road," Lukhele told AFP.
