Presidency intensifies attack on Amaechi as PDP hands over Rivers chapter to opposition
The ongoing battle between the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Presidency through the national leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continued on Tuesday as the party leadership inaugurated new leaders for its Rivers State chapter.
The inauguration of Felix Obuah as Rivers PDP chairman was done by
the National Working Committee of the party led by its National
Chairman, Bamanga Tukur,
at the party’s headquarters in Abuja. The inauguration occurs less than
24 hours after an Abuja High Court declared Mr. Obuah as the rightful
chairman of the Rives PDP.
Mr. Obuah challenged the election of Godspower Ake, a loyalist of Mr. Amaechi, as the PDP chairman in Rivers.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, said
the state government is still studying the court judgement and would
react after a thorough review.
Mr. Amaechi has been having a running battle with the presidency and
the PDP leadership over his statements and positions on critical
national and party matters. He has publicly criticised the presidency
for the corruption in the petroleum subsidy scheme and is believed to be
opposed to the planned re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.
