Dolphins FC request changes in league schedule
Dolphins FC has requested an adjustment to be made in the timetable of the league to avoid playing matches when European clubs are playing.
The Manager of the club, Joe Johnson, said he desires a shift in the timing of Nigerian league matches to avoid a clash especially with the English premiership games, which has a huge following in this part of the world.
Mr. Johnson’s club, just like most others in the Nigerian league, is battling with low turnout of fans.
He said a change in the timing may solve the problem.
“I would have wished it were possible for our timings to be changed because if you notice our gate takings increase slightly when the English league is on recess,” the club’s media manager, China Acheru, quoted Mr. Johnson as saying.
“But as soon as there is a clash with EPL games, we hardly see people at the stadium because they prefer the other one.”
He gave an example of a viewing centre near the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt having more fans than at the stadium watching the league match.
“It tells you our perception here. I think we really need to do a lot more,” Mr. Johnson said.
