When the idea of establishing the African University of Technology and Management, (UATM) Gbegamey, Republic of Benin, in the West of Africa was first conceptualized by the owners, it is possible that they had looked ahead;
believing that the underlying importance of a higher education , of science, of technology, of research, and scholarship are quality of life to the strength of any economy, security in many dimension and will continue to be the most important message, hence the need for an investment in the institution.
That dream of an investment in higher education, being the most important thing the owners of the university can do for the future generations has since grown to be a big tree yielding fruits from all the branches. Cautious not to risk the best and brightest from pursuing higher education and securing good-paying job, the school authority has also made higher education affordable compared to what obtains in other institutions. The university has deliberately made it very flexible in such a way that even those from a very low background would have access to quality education such as it provides. This must have been so probably the owners recognized the fact that the best math lesson to teach university students is to subtract a tuition increase and benefit from the dividends of higher education.
Today, UATM is an investment in knowledge yielding big interest, it is an example of a perfect path to bridge the gap between different cultures and to reconcile various civilizations, thus promoting the values of liberty, justice and equality and consequently eliminate ignorance and any threat to humankind. Though it may not be as large as other institutions in the neighbouring West African states, the University has successfully proved that structural configuration does not give you the best when it comes to offering quality higher education but what matters most times, is the individual needs of the students. Amongst these is the record of good lecturers which the University is proud of. They are teachers of very sound background in their various chosen fields and who were brought into Benin from various parts of the world. The teachers inspire hope; they ignite imagination and instill a love of learning in the students. In fact by recognizing the fact that education is the key to success in life, the teachers make a lasting impact in the lives of their students.
Like good entertainer, the teachers hold their students attention to teach their lessons. This makes visitors to look back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers that UATM parades because they touch your human feelings. Though the curriculum is so much necessary raw materials, but warmth is the vital elements for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
In UATM, discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment; and as Madame Edith Nkem Ijeh, a Nigerian working in the school as the Director of International Affairs and Strategies put it, “in UATM, we teach the value of discipline, focus, persistence, and teamwork because these are all skills that have proven vital to future career and social entrepreneurship.”
And according to Maxime Ayi, President Adviser/Project Manager,” discipline is very important here, we take it as topmost issue because the discipline you learn and character you build from setting and achieving a goal can be more valuable than the achievement of the goal itself.”
From the foregoing, it is established, that for any student to proudly say he or she was nurtured by UATM for quality education, there is need for discipline and hard work for such boldness.
Created in 1992 by Ministerial Decree No. 009/MENRS/CAB/DC/DAPS/SP, on January 23, 1997, it was intended to train senior undergraduates ( BAC +2) and award the certificate of Advanced Vocational Diploma (BTS), the African University of Technology and Management was accredited as a private university on February 1, 2006 by Ministerial Order N ° -003/MESRS/CAB/DC / SMG / DPP / DESUP / SP. The Ecole Normale Supérieure
“The Ecole Normale Supérieure” trains certified teachers in different areas of knowledge. It is also a place for building skills for future engineers who consider their level in low an area or another. It should be noted that pedagogical courses are included in training and are taught by experts in the field.
Comprendre le LMD
The map of university education has been redesigned in recent years to harmonize the architecture of the European higher education. This new architecture is based primarily on studies of the three grades of Bachelor, Master and Doctorate or LMD, they cut the course of university studies in O’Level + 3 or 6 semesters for the Bachelor, O’Level + 5 or 10 semesters for the Master and O’Level + 8 or 16 semesters for the PhD.
The LMD reform has also set up an organization of lessons in semesters and teaching units (UE). Each UE, which may be fundamental, complementary or free, it’s seen also to assign a number of credits. Validating the UE through various examinations modalities, (continuous, midyear exam, internship, stay abroad, etc.), the university recognizes the student’s acquisition of credits that allow him/her to reach each level of study /grade and not by the validation of years of study. Thus, a semester is validated when 30 credits are included.
Today, DEUG and Postgraduate Diploma became interim securities that may be issued after confirmation of the first 120 credits for Bachelor and Master after the validation of first 60 credits of the Master. These intermediary titles remain valid when it comes to participating in some competition, O’level + 2 + 4 or O’level as aggregation.
Adding that, the ranks of Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degrees are national. The university submits its training models at the Ministry of Education that evaluates compliance with national rules.
