Bi-Courtney unleashes
hired thugs on airport premises
Thugs and hoodlums allegedly hired by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited,
operators of the MMA Domestic Terminal 2 (MMA 2) concession, caused a brief breach of
the peace around the terminal today when they forcefully replaced the
advertisement flex removed by the
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria recently, because such advert displays
constituted a breach in the concession agreement between the two organisations.
According to a statement issued by the General Manager, Corporate Communications, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Hon. Yakubu Dati the activities of the hoodlums resulted in unnecessary
traffic bottleneck on the airport access road before FAAN security officials
dispersed them, restored order in the affected part of airport and removed the
advertisement flex.
It will be recalled that FAAN recently removed all illegal
advertisement material on billboards and structures along the internal road of
the Murtala Muhammed Airport, including those displaced by Bi-Courtney because such
advert material infringed on advertisement rights of the Authority, since those
who placed the adverts did not receive the permission of FAAN to do so.
Dismantling of those advert materials was part of a
nationwide exercise being carried out by FAAN to halt illegal advertisement on
airport land, so the Authority views the recent replacement of the dismantled advert
material along the airport internal road by Bi-Courtney today, as an act of
provocation which must be resisted, in the overall interest of safety and
security at the Murtala Muhammed Airport.
